Fambridge Yacht Haven launches RYA Active Marina Programme

01 June 2012

RYA launch 2012-03Fambridge Yacht Haven on the River Crouch has now been officially recognised by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) as an Active Marina.

To celebrate the launch of the Active Marina programme, Fambridge Yacht Haven and West Wick Yacht Club ran an Open Day at the marina on Saturday 19 May.

Berth holders were greeted by a complimentary hot bacon roll and fresh tea and coffee at Natajacs, and the RYA was there to welcome everyone and take bookings for our first ever Ladies Day, to be held on the 23rd June, and our planned Cruise in Company on the 8th September - see our event listings for more details

RYA launch 2012-02Berth holders and their children enjoyed sailing RS Terra dinghies within the sheltered Stow Creek with the Essex Police Marine Unit, and the RNLI gave guided tours aboard their latest RIB's. The RNLI Sea Safety Road Show was also there and kept busy all day carrying out several sea safety vessel inspections and over 50 life jacket inspections, all free of charge.

Many tenants were available for a chat and to offer a bit of friendly advice, while promoting their services from their stands. And the West Wick Yacht Club committee and members played a huge part in the day, greatly assisting in the organisation of the event and hosting their own well-attended stand on the day.

Both motor boat and sailing boat owners were catered for; berth holders enjoyed free workshop displays run by the RYA Yachtmasters from 'First Class Sailing East Coast' aboard their sailing school sail boats, including basic boat handling, rope handling, casting off and berthing together, and the skipper of Essex Girl gave regular trips aboard his Princess 420 motor boat.

RYA launch 2012-01"The launch of our RYA Active Marina programme was a great success, and we were lucky enough to have brilliant weather. The aim of the day and the Active Marina programme is to help boat owners to make the most of their boats by increasing confidence and skill levels as well as helping them to meet new people in the marina. The feedback from our berth holders was really positive, with many people signing up for our Ladies Day in June and the Cruise in Company to Tollesbury Marina in September. We are looking forward to running our first event now!" said Danyal Adams, Manager of Fambridge Yacht Haven.
