Sailing at Largs
Largs is a lively marina host to many events and a busy
programme of weekend and evening races.
"The jewel in the crown of Scottish sailing."
Sir Chay Blythe
Largs Sailing Club is proud to operate from its waterfront
clubhouse at the marina.
Full catering is on offer and the club can be hired for
meetings, functions, etc to members. Visitors from other clubs are
welcome to use the facilities and enjoy the best view of the Clyde
sunsets and firework displays (in September and November) from
the balcony.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) chose Largs as its location
for the Scottish "Centre of Excellence" and the Scottish Sailing
Institute (SSI) was created to promote Largs as a major
championship venue and to coordinate large championship events and
race training activity.
The SSI now
works within the Largs Sailing Club clubhouse. Its specific
function is to promote the sport of sailing, organise training and
to manage national and international events from Largs. The SSI
works in conjunction with the national sports centres at Inverclyde
and Cumbrae as well as the RYA. The company is currently working on
increasing awareness of the facilities to a wider market in the run
up to the 2012 Olympics.
With additional launching facilities constructed in 2010, Largs
is now hosting many national and international championships
including the Laser Radial Worlds in July 2010.
Fairlie Yacht Club run a busy programme of weekend and evening
races and musters from Largs.
