Welcome to our Meet the Team series...
Name: Ian Pitman
Job: Yard Foreman
How long have your worked at Yacht Havens? Almost 15 years.
What does your job involve? Lifting and shifting boats!
What does a typical day look like for you? Launching and lifting, Chocking and cradling, some pressure washing, and a lot of time management!
How did you end up doing the job you’re doing now? Here goes - Clarks shoes as a salesman, Supermarket manager, plastics factory shift manager, Farmer, Caterer at festivals, Brewer of real Ale… I don’t know quite how I ended up here either!
If someone had one day to spend in Plymouth or Mount Batten, what would you recommend that they do? Wander from pub to pub around the Barbican!
Do you have a top tip that you’d like to share with our customers? Talk to the staff and let them know exactly what you need before they do the job – we don’t bite and we're happy to help with the most obscure requests, but it's always best to know in advance!
Favourite boat (make/model or actual boat) and why? Any Bristol Channel pilot cutter type – fast, solid, and the product of real craftsmanship in wood.
What’s your favourite snack while you’re at work? Bakewell flapjack
What’s your favourite moment from your Yacht Havens career? I love the vibrancy of the Rolex Fastnet Race - berthing 300+ boats in 36 hours, with competitors a funny mix of elation, exhaustion and relief!
