Celebrating 10 years of our Dry Stack in Plymouth!

Growing Business and Employment at Plymouth’s Dry Stack Marina

18 January 2018

A Plymouth boatyard which is home to UK’s largest “Indoor Marina” is seeing its on-site businesses expand and flourish, providing both excellent service to boat owners, as well as increasing local employment opportunities in marine trades.

Yacht Haven Quay is the base for Lewis Marine, established in 2013 and offering a full range of both inboard and outboard engine sales and servicing across the South West. With full order books from a variety of clients, including commercial and pleasure vessels, Lewis Marine have recently taken on another full-time engineer. In addition, the firm has been appointed an official dealer of Suzuki Outboards, adding to the existing brands of Selva, Nanni, Webasto, Lofrans ,Max Power and Fischer Panda. Dan Lewis and his team are well-placed at Yacht Haven Quay where up to 200 boats are kept on racks in the drystack marina, many of them outboard powered, in addition to the busy boatyard which can see a further 300 vessels ashore at any one time.

Meanwhile, the fledgling business of Nathan Bone Yacht Repairs and Refits has really hit the waterfront running. From a humble beginning less than two years ago, as a “man in a van,” time-served shipwright Nathan and his growing four-man team have recently moved into a bespoke workshop and boatshed, catering for vessels up to 50’ in length, at Yacht Haven Quay. With this facility, Nathan’s team who between them have over 50 years experience in the industry from as far afield as Tortola to Totnes, can now offer the complete range of refit work up to major rebuilds. Nathan is also the regional distributor for Flexiteek Decking ™, an environmentally sound and increasingly popular  alternative to traditional teak.

Will Rahder, Director at Yacht Haven Quay, comments that “It’s encouraging for the boatyard to see a variety of businesses on site flourishing, expanding with demand, and confirming Plymouth’s importance as a destination for marine businesses and boat owners. It’s particularly positive that with this growth, there are associated local job opportunities for both experienced and new entrants alike.”
