The Green Blue Congratulates Online Toolkit Users
Today at the PSP Southampton Boat Show (Thursday 16 September) members of The Green Blue, the environmental initiative of the RYA and BMF, were joined by a number of representatives from marine organisations at a special luncheon to congratulate them on successfully completing The Green Blue's online toolkit and making the all-important steps in implementing environmental change.
Claiming their specially designed certificates which acknowledge their commitment and what they've done so far were; Ben Lippiett on behalf of Haslar Marina in Gosport, Laura Purdy for Mayflower Marina in Plymouth, Julian Goldie representing Tollesbury Marina in Essex, Danyal Adams from Fambridge Yacht Haven also in Essex and Graham Burt on behalf of Sunsail UK.
All five organisations have completed their online toolkits and started to implement environmental changes. For example at Fambridge Yacht Haven, they now divert 100% of their waste from landfill; whilst at Mayflower Marina they have implemented a cleaner water programme whereby all the waste washed up in the marina is collected by special contractors and disposed of accordingly.
Dan Reading, The Green Blue's Sustainability Officer commented: "We have presented these special certificates to these particular organisations to recognise the work they have carried out to improve environmental facilities.
"Today's luncheon was a way to both congratulate them as well as saying a big thank you to The Crown Estate for their continued support."
Certificate recipient Julian Goldie said: "We're delighted to have benefited from the support and advice of The Green Blue together with the on-going technical support we receive as an East Coast marina we would encourage every marina to seek help of The Green Blue.
"We're delighted that the RYA, BMF and The Crown Estate are working so closely on this project, it's an absolute win win opportunity for all involved."
The Green Blue Marine Toolkit is an online self-assessment toolkit that allows marine organisations to formulate an action plan that improves their environmental credentials.
