For boat owners, the winter is often the quietest period with boats safely tucked away (either ashore or afloat) and usage often restricted to special occasions, unusually warm weekends or the occasional winter race!
However, the winter is often the busiest time for staff at the Yacht Haven as it allows us time to make site improvements ahead of the new sailing season.
So here's what we're working on this winter...
Marina Entrance Landscaping
If you've visited the site in the past fortnight, you may have noticed some landscaping works going on by the Marina Entrance.
We are in the process of widening the Marina Entrance ensuring motorists have better visibility from the main road and around the corner past Ropewalk and Jeremy Rogers. To increase pedestrian safety, we've removed some shrubs and trees to make room for a clearly marked footpath alongisde the road. Lastly, as part of these improvements, we'll be replacing the access barriers and providing better lighting to make the site safer for all users.
See below for images - more to be added soon!
Access Control System
We have also installed a new access control system designed to improve security around the marina and on the pontoons. The new fob system provides a much tighter control of who gains access into the berth holder car park and onto the pontoons, thus ensuring these facilities remain exclusively for the use of resident berth holders, tenants and marina staff only.
If you're visiting the marina, don't worry - our security number system is still in operation for marina visitors. Just collect the code from the Marina Office as normal.
If you still have an old-style fob, just bring it to the Marina Office on your next visit and we'll swap it for a new one - simple!
Once again, we've been dredging the marina as part of our annual marina maintenance. This winter, we've dredged the Marina Entrance, the area just west of the end of N pontoon, and the area between the end of E pontoon and the L/M Hammerhead.
At the moment, the dredging team of Ali and Ben are finishing dredging berths C1-C6 having already dredged the rest of C pontoon.
Over the coming months, we'll conduct a full survey of the marina floor to identify the areas that we'll dredge next winter.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Lymington Yacht Haven very soon as we look ahead to the new sailing season! And don't forget, if you'd like to see any other facilities installed, just drop us an email or visit the Marina Office - we're open to all ideas!
