30 July - 05 August 2016

Over 300 Optimist dinghies are expected at Largs once again as the town hosts the biggest dinghy event of the year.

Using the Largs Yacht Haven Championship Slipway, the Nationals are a stunning sight on the Ayrshire water with tough, tight racing expected in the single-handed dinghy.

For more information, visit the websites for Largs Sailing Club, Scottish Sailing Institute or the IOCA event page.

The IOCA (International Optimist Class Association) 2016 AGM is scheduled for Wednesday 3rd August at Largs Sailing Club

Dinghy sailing in Largs

Largs Sailing Club is one of the major championship sailing clubs in the UK and regularly hosts National and World Championships for a range of different classes. Events are organised by Largs Sailing Club, Largs Yacht Haven and the Scottish Sailing Institute.

2016 is another busy year with the UK Optimist Nationals at the end of July, Largs Regatta Week in August, the RYAS Junior Zones in September, and the RYAS Winters in December.

Volunteers in Largs were very proud to have their efforts recognised by the award of the Yachts and Yachting Event of the Year in early 2014, for our hosting of the 2013 RYA Youth Championships (the biggest UK dinghy sailing event outside the Olympics) and held in near Baltic weather!
