The Clyde played an important maritime role during World War 2 and many of its coastal towns (particularly Greenock and Clydebank) sustained heavy bombing during the conflict.
In recognition of this important anniversary, the Port has been asked to participate in the Royal Navy’s #ShineALight Campaign to mark VE 75 commemorative celebrations on Friday 8th May 2020.
A Notice To Mariners has been issued for the following events, although please continue to follow Government guidance with regards to your participation:
- At 1500, Sound your ship's horn to mark Churchill's speech
- At 2130 - 2135, shine a search/spot light into the night sky marking the King's Speech (time adjusted from the original speech at 1945 to achieve maximum effect in darker skies)
