After ten weeks of 24 hour work, 367 boat moves and three named storms (Desmond, Frank and Gertrude), the Largs Yacht Haven dredging operation has been completed.
The marina has now been dredged to 3m below chart datum with several notable shallow areas dredged even further. The one-off dredging exercise for the marina should last 20 years.
The logistical operation of the dredging provided constant challenges for the Haven Team with dredging contractors Humber Workboats Ltd requiring access to the whole marina basin over the ten week period. Dredging begun in December 2015 on the F/G fairways and berths, before proceeding east to pontoons H/J, K/L and M/O. In late February, dredging moved to the western end of the marina to pontoons B/C and lastly D/E.
Despite some periods of heavy rain and strong winds slowing progress, the last pontoon berth was dredged in early March allow berth holders to return to their berths.
Largs Yacht Haven would like the thank marina berth holders for their co-operation throughout all the boat moving.
