Work has now been completed on the raising of the breakwater at Largs Yacht Haven, Firth of Clyde. The six month long project has increased the height of the existing west breakwater by 1.5m to give added protection against bad weather.
The work has been carried out through a joint venture between Ayrshire based Barr Ltd and Belfast based Mc Laughlin and Harvey for the marina owners, Yacht Havens Ltd. Largs Yacht Haven was constructed in 1983 and with recent bad weather and higher tides it was deemed prudent to create an even safer haven for boat owners for years to come. The works are seen as a significant investment by Yacht Havens Ltd for the long term benefit of their berth holders.
The adjacent gravel car park has also been upgraded at the same time to a larger surfaced car park providing 90 marked spaces.
"We are feeling very snug behind our new wall," commented Carolyn Elder, manager of Largs Yacht Haven. "We have survived many storms over the years, this construction will give greater peace of mind for years to come".
