The classic midweek series of Largs Regatta Week 2016, sponsored by CalMac Ferries Ltd, was a windy affair with winds of 25kts recorded at least once on each of the race days, which was quite a contrast with Cumbraes Weekend which was largely a light wind affair.
The 100 Guineas Series is run over 3 days during the middle of the Regatta Week. Although strong winds meant dinghy racing on Thursday was cancelled, the keelboats completed the full series.
Congratulations go to David and Ian Kent in their Hurricane 5.9SX who scooped up the 100 Guineas as best overall performer in the dinghy fleet, and Excalibur (pictured above) picked up the 100 Guineas cash prize for best overall performer in the keelboat fleet.
Friday evening saw Largs Sailing Club transformed into a Rio Carnival setting for the 2016 Regatta Dinner. With Olympic commentator and bronze medalist Rob Woodhouse giving a fascinating After Dinner talk on his experiences, the evening certainly had an Olympic-style feel!
Still to come on the final weekend:
- Hems Kalis Dinghy Trophy
- Scottish 2 Handed Race
- Firth of Clyde Coasting Rowing Regatta
Taken by 100 Guineas winners Excalibur showing a wet, wild and windy race on the Firth of Clyde!
