This race is on every sailor’s bucket list, and for good reason, as it challenges the mental and physical abilities of crews and the technical abilities of yachts. To complete this race is an achievement in itself!
The biennial Rolex Fastnet Race starts at 11am on Saturday 3rd August (straight after Cowes Week), with the yachts sailing for the Fastnet rock off the Irish coast before finishing in Plymouth.
For 2019, the upper limit on boat lengths has increased to over 100ft, so the race promises to be a spectacular event! Furthermore, the Volvo Ocean Race has announced that all 9 teams will complete the 2017 Rolex Fastnet Race as part of a Pre-VOR series along with a wide range of other VIP boats, high-performance racing yachts, classic boats and much more.
The classic 600mile race will have over 400 boats taking part, the largest fleet in the event's history. Weather depending, we expect the first boats to be finishing in Plymouth on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The race finishes at Plymouth Yacht Haven, sister marina to Lymington Yacht Haven. Plymouth will host the Race Village and Crew Village before prizegiving on Friday night.
