Nineteen new berths have been created at Lymington Yacht Haven, the flagship marina for Yacht Havens Group, to accommodate an increased demand for larger berths.
The pontoon reconfiguration work, undertaken by Walcon Marine, included removing a section of finger berths from F pontoon and repiling at a wider distance. New, longer finger pontoons were then fitted to accommodate boats up to 55ft (16m) LOA with new electric points and freshwater hoses fitted.
The reconfiguration works stemmed from an increased demand for larger berths. Lymington Yacht Haven Marina Director Rupert Wagstaff commented, "We've seen the size and shape of boats change over the years with our average boat length increasing in size and more boats in the 45'-55' length bracket. We have designed the new berths with extra long finger pontoons that are all secured with a pile at the end, ensuring a safe and stable berth to moor alongside. We have also increased the beam of the berths to comfortably accommodate the larger beam of modern boats ensuring that at the end of an enjoyable day on the water our berth holders and visitors have a nice wide berth to moor on."
Rupert continued, "Since announcing these plans in the autumn to increase our berthing capacity for larger boats, we've seen a really positive response from boat owners wanting to bring their boats to Lymington Yacht Haven."
The pontoon works mark the end of a busy year for Lymington Yacht Haven having undertaken a large dredging operation at the start of the 2015, installing a new live weather system and retaining their Five Gold Anchor Marina accreditation in the summer.
