After nearly four decades of sterling service the original hoist bay at Lymington Yacht Haven has finally undergone replacement. The new finger opened on schedule on Monday 9th January 2012, with haul outs carrying on apace since then.
The £150,000 contract was awarded to Walcon Marine, and was a considerable undertaking, entailing a month's closure of the facility. This period was necessary to undertake the piling work and to allow due curing time for the concrete. The piling rig took up the entire hoist bay and work berth areas, and provided two piles on the shore to tie the whole rig back to the land - this meant digging down 2 metres to expose the existing tie rods and ensure that the new piles did not affect the existing ones.
Thanks to good planning and your support, the project has been a great success and the facility is now in full use.
We appreciate your patience during this period and we worked hard at ensuring that customers who had previously booked to come out over those dates were offered suitable alternatives. Lifts that took place earlier than originally requested were provided with free storage on the hard standing for the extra period and we hope that this strategy has been a successful compromise.
If you wish to hoist your boat out between now and Easter and this is not yet booked, please contact us now, as land spaces are in short supply this year and we would like to make full provision, if this is possible.
