Welcome to our Meet the Team series that we're calling #BehindThePontoons...
Name: Tim Hallowes
Job: Night Haven Master (the best looking one)
How long have your worked at Yacht Havens? 9 years
What does your job involve? Boat and site security, meeting and greeting customers, running the office overnight, problem finding/sorting/defect rectification. 30% in the office, 70% out around the site, helping boaters in the last 10 minutes of their voyage when it can so often go terribly wrong - for example, I took the overnight VHF call from the Sport Relief 'Hell On The High Seas' boat who were desperate for a berth after a nightmare trying to escape a storm!
How did you end up working for Yacht Havens? I was sat on my boat in Key West with a massive Rum punch when I received an email from Will Rahder (Manager at Yacht Haven Quay). After 29 years in the forces, 5 years in Sailing schools, 3 Tall Ships Races as Skipper with my wife as the Mate.
What's the most important element of boat ownership/maintenance? The planning and removal of damp.
What's your top tip for boating? Maintain crew moral! Anybody can be cold, wet and miserable. But with a small amount of effort, crew can be warm dry and fighting through the mal de mare.
Favourite boat (make/model or actual boat) and why? Oyster Yachts for the quality of build and sailing ability. Trader motor yachts for their power and gentlemen-cruising.
What’s your favourite snack while you’re at work? Cheese toasties and asparagus cup-a-soups!
