Plymouth Yacht Haven to host the finish of the Rolex Fastnet Yacht Race

06 March 2013

Rolex Fastnet at Plymouth Yacht HavenTo cater for the increased number of entrants this year, Plymouth Yacht Haven has been selected as the host marina for the finish of the 2013 Rolex Fastnet Race, with the finishing yachts set to arrive in Plymouth between 13 and 17 August 2013.

Following the success of Plymouth Yacht Haven's involvement in the prestigious biennial race in 2011, providing berthing for over 90 Fastnet finishers, the marina is delighted by the Royal Ocean Racing Club's decision to base the entire event at Mount Batten this year, with additional berthing provided by other Plymouth marinas.

Plymouth's whole Mount Batten peninsula is getting involved in the event, with berthing, the main Fastnet Race Village and comprehensive facilities based at Plymouth Yacht Haven, and a 24-hour food and crew bar at the adjacent Mount Batten Watersports Centre.

Competitors and visitors will be able to enjoy the large bar and restaurant at the Mount Batten Hotel, the marina's elegant Bridge Bar & Restaurant, and the traditional village pubs of Turnchapel:  the Clovelly Inn and Boringdon Arms.  Free parking for visitors on the peninsula will be available in several council car parks.

The 150-passenger Mount Batten Ferry will make the five-minute crossing to Plymouth's Barbican area throughout the day and evening, providing easy access for visitors and Fastnet competitors alike between the peninsula and the city's bars, restaurants and accommodation.

Mount Batten is also a perfect location from which to admire the spectacular Fireworks Championships which coincide with the Rolex Fastnet finish on 13 and 14  August, and which take place from the end of the Mount Batten Breakwater.

The peninsula is a popular year round leisure destination, offering dinghy sailing and canoeing activities at the Mount Batten Watersports Centre, marina life at Plymouth Yacht Haven, a classic promenade along the South West Coast Path, a choice of excellent lunch venues along the waterfront and the ferry crossing to the Barbican.

Plymouth Yacht Haven has 450 berths, both fingers and alongside berthing suitable for larger boats, easy 24-hour access from Plymouth Sound, and shelter from the prevailing winds.

Laura Whinney, Plymouth Yacht Haven Marina Manager said: "We're delighted that The Royal Ocean Racing Club has selected Plymouth Yacht Haven to host the finish of the 2013 Rolex  Fastnet Race. The marina is ideally suited to the major berthing requirements of the Rolex Fastnet, and we're looking forward to offering competitors and visitors a very warm welcome to what promises to be a truly great event."
