Ray: A Life Underwater VIDEO Goes Viral

03 October 2011

It seems the world has taken this Yacht Havens sponsored film and run with it. The unstoppable rise of views has exceeded 100,000, and Ray is having an amazing effect on people.  The comments and emails have been extraordinary with a sample of comments on Vimeo: "amazing … awesome … inspiring … wonderful … breathtaking".

It has been re-posted on websites and blogs all over the world and the text has been translated into French www.journal-du-design.fr and Spanish, featured on design websites, dive websites, the list goes on.

Ray was the subject of a long profile piece in the Plymouth Herald this month. Plymouth Herald correspondent, Martin Freeman, submerges himself in the fascinating underwater world of Ray Ives and writes a great piece on the film - View his story here in the Plymouth Herald

The biggest single exposure so far is an interview that the film-maker, Amanda Bluglass, undertook with American magazine TheAtlantic.com, which claims to have 7 million unique visitors a month. They featured the film on their home page www.theatlantic.com, which has helped to bring the film to mainstream attention in the US.

Amanda has also had numerous emails and comments from the many people who Ray has trained over the years, and a letter from his cousin who was moved to tears, and one from a New Jersey police detective:

"My name is Clint and I just wanted to tell you how much I loved the short film. I am not a film critic; far from it. I am a Police Detective in New Jersey. I just thought it was beautifully done and says so much about one person's life and though you may not notice it while you are busy with all the things we get busy with can be lived so wonderfully. Thank you for taking the time to make it."
