There was a great atmosphere at Plymouth Yacht Haven last night. The marina was bustling with our own berth holders and visiting boats all here for the National Fireworks Championships which kicked off at 9.30. We also had a cheerful cluster of boats from Mylor Yacht Club who enjoyed wine and pretzels on the pontoons.
From the Rolex Fastnet Race Village come strains of live music and chatter, but as yet, we were still waiting patiently for the first Fastnet finisher! Everything is ready – the marina (and staff) have been tidied to within an inch of their lives, and we have created enough berthing space to welcome the majority of the Fastnet finishers as they arrive, but the wind has been light and their progress has been agonisingly slow.
The four largest multihulls finished yesterday morning and have already been whisked away home by delivery crews. We are hoping to welcome in the two 100 foot vessels Esimit and ICAP Leopard overnight, and maybe some of the IMOCA 60s and Volvo 70s too. Watch this space!
