After 47 hours of competitive sailing, mixed in with fell running, the winners of the 2017 Scottish Islands Peak Race crossed the finish line at the Troon Yacht Haven office.
SY North Star were overall winners (skipper Chris Miles, runners Tom Gibbs and Kieran Hodgson, and crew Ken Roberts and Dave Hughes) completing the sailing event in a time of 47 hours, 50minutes.
The adventure race is for teams of Sailors and Fell Runners (both adult and teenage) and is held annually on and around the most beautiful parts of the West Coast of Bonny Scotland. The race starts in Oban with a short hill run, then a sail to Salen on Mull, run over Ben More, sail to Craighouse on Jura, run the Paps, sail to Arran, run Goat Fell, then sail to Troon.
Over 30 boats took part in the 2017 race with many teams receiving dolphin escorts, especially through the Sound of Luing (see video below). Racers still arriving in Troon over 2 days after the winners!
A big "well done" to all competitors who took part in the unique, gruelling and spectacular race.
