A time for serious buyers

As the pace of the boating season eases and Plymouth’s dry stack marina settles into winter, South West Yacht Brokers, based at Yacht Haven Quay, are taking stock of the boats that have drawn the most attention this autumn. “It’s always a good time of year for buyers,” says  South West Yacht Brokers. “People often assume winter is quiet, but it’s when serious buyers come looking — they’ve got time to prepare for next season, and there are some real gems available.”

Botnia Targa 27.1 – “The 4x4 of the Seas”

Described by the team as “a real find in this condition”, this late-model Botnia Targa 27.1 is a standout among current listings. Fitted with a Volvo D6 370, it offers a top speed of around 32 knots and an easy cruise at 24 knots.

The model features an internal toilet and shower compartment, a detail unique to later examples. “It’s one of the best all-weather performers you can buy, warm air heating, radar, bow thruster — it’s well equipped and clearly cared for.”

Jeanneau Merry Fisher 895 – Style and Practicality Combined

Next on their list is a 2017 Jeanneau Merry Fisher 895, described as “a brilliant blend of comfort and performance.” With a 300hp Suzuki outboard and only 190 hours of use, it offers reliability and versatility for both anglers and family cruisers.

“Jeanneau designed this boat with everyone in mind. You’ve got space to relax, a proper galley, and the performance to make a decent passage when the weather allows.”

Aquastar Ocean Ranger 38 – Built for Blue Water

Completing the trio is the Aquastar Ocean Ranger 38 Aft Cockpit, a proven blue-water cruiser known for its strength and comfort. Recently fitted with new artificial teak decking (2025) and powered by twin Perkins diesels, she’s ready for extended cruising.

“It’s a proper sea boat, good access from the cockpit, heating, radar, and solid accommodation — ideal if you want something capable but not over the top.”

Yacht Haven Quay remains active through the colder months, with the brokerage open for viewings and discussions. For many, this is the best time to explore the market without the bustle of summer.

“If you’re thinking of buying, winter’s the smart time,” says South West Yacht Brokers. “The boats are here, and we’ve got time to talk people through what really suits them.”
