'Unwavering dedication to saving lives at sea.'

We’re delighted to celebrate manager, Dave Hewitt, a much-respected member of the Yacht Havens family and an outstanding volunteer with Largs Lifeboat.

This week, Dave was recognised by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for an incredible 30 years of voluntary service. His devotion to saving lives at sea — often putting others before himself — is truly inspiring and a testament to his character and commitment.

'The award recognises his tireless dedication'

At a ceremony held on 27 October 2025, Dave was presented with his Long Service Award by Peter Sparks, Chief Executive of the RNLI. The award recognises his tireless dedication to answering the call, whatever the hour or weather conditions, and the many personal sacrifices made along the way.

The team at Largs RNLI captured the spirit of the occasion perfectly:

“Largs RNLI is celebrating the dedication of one of their volunteers who has given an incredible 30 years to the lifesaving charity. This morning, 27 October 2025, Dave Hewitt was presented with his Long Service Award by Peter Sparks, Chief Executive of the RNLI.

Volunteers are the heart of the RNLI and make up 95% of our people. They are ordinary people who do extraordinary things and without them and the support of their families, we couldn’t save lives at sea every day.

Largs RNLI is lucky to have a team of wonderful volunteers who always answer the call, but none more special than Dave Hewitt. We are celebrating Dave and his wonderful voluntary service achievement of 30 years. Thirty years of selfless voluntary commitment to answering his pager regardless of when it goes off, why it goes off and what the conditions are. His dedication has often meant missing family events, dinners, and birthdays, sacrifices made in the spirit of saving others.”
