Largs Regatta Festival 2025 continued apace this week with the Midweek Evening Series very generously sponsored by Henri Lloyd. The early darkness meant short sharp racing with a little extra time back in the bar afterwards. After a very windy weekend the evenings delivered enough breeze for some more relaxed racing as the sun went down.
Largs Sailing Club ran three evenings each with 3 classes including a Novice class for the less experienced. It was all to sail for as places changed each evening leading to an exciting finale with Martin Faulkener and Bill Forsyth the victors in the Long Fleet in their RS400 followed closely by Chris Nicol and Dawn Macrae in their Osprey. In the Short fleet Ruari Herrington dominated in his ILCA Laser with Simon Limb hot on his heels in his D Zero. Congratulations also due to Aiden Alderson in his Topper winning the Novice class.
Fairlie Yacht Club simultaneously ran keelboat racing over two evenings. Long standing racer John Kent with Farr E Nuff dominated Class 2 over Martin Lacey’s Waterjet, with the elegant Fife, Piccolo, owned by Martin Maiden, achieving two firsts to take the top prize in Class 3.
The Festival culminates in the Scottish Two Handed Round Arran Race on Saturday 6 September where all 43 yachts will sail with only two people on board on a course which tests endurance, determination and stamina.
