Largs is a lively marina host to many events and a busy programme of weekend and evening races.
Largs Sailing Club is proud to operate from its waterfront clubhouse at the marina.
Full catering is on offer and the club can be hired for meetings, functions, etc to members. Visitors from other clubs are welcome to use the facilities and enjoy the best view of the Clyde sunsets and firework displays (in September and November) from the balcony.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) chose Largs as its location for the Scottish "Centre of Excellence" and the Scottish Sailing Institute (SSI) was created to promote Largs as a major championship venue and to coordinate large championship events and race training activity.
The SSI now works within the Largs Sailing Club clubhouse. Its specific function is to promote the sport of sailing, organise training and to manage national and international events from Largs. The SSI works in conjunction with the national sports centres at Inverclyde and Cumbrae as well as the RYA. The company was also heavily involved with increasing awareness of the facilities to a wider market in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.
With additional launching facilities constructed in 2010, Largs now regularly hosts many national and international championships including the Laser Radial Worlds.
Fairlie Yacht Club run a busy programme of weekend and evening races and musters from Largs.
Opened by Dame Ellen MacArthur, the new Scottish base for the charity opened at Largs Yacht Haven in late 2014. Providing sailing opportunities for young people recovering from cancer and leukaemia, the trust has expanded from their Solent base into Scotland for the first time.
"We are really pleased to be working in Scotland. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world to sail. We have been overwhelmed by the welcome and support we received at Largs. We could not have asked for any more!", Frank Fletcher, Chief Executive at Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
