Urgent mental health helplines

How could they help me? Listening line staff will let you talk through your feelings and experiences without judging you or telling you what to do. Many listening services let you talk for as long as you need.

England - If you live in England, you can call a local NHS urgent mental health helpline for support during a mental health crisis. Anyone can call these helplines, at any time. These helplines offer similar support to a crisis team. The NHS website has more information on urgent mental health helplines, including how to find your local helpline.

Wales - In Wales, you can contact NHS 111 and select option 2. This will put you through to an NHS helpline offering 24/7 urgent mental health support. Visit the NHS 111 Wales website to find out more about this service.

Scotland – NHS 24 mental health services are available to everyone in Scotland including listening, offering advice, and guiding you to further help if required day or night. If you need to reach out to them, just call 111. You can also find your nearest services by using the NHS 24 Online app.

Help@hand Wellbeing App

Award-winning health and wellbeing app Help@hand offers total wellbeing support for you and your eligible family members, all in one place and provides 24/7 access to six core health-related services:

  1. Remote GP: 24/7 access to a GP via video calling.
  2. Physiotherapy: Online physiotherapy appointments with an assigned therapist.
  3. Mental health support: Personalised attention and round the clock access to appropriate mental health professionals.
  4. Second opinion: A second medical opinion on existing conditions or help if an employee is struggling to get a diagnosis.
  5. Life, money and wellbeing support: Providing all the features you would find in a typical employee assistance programme, including financial or legal advice, counselling sessions, fitness and nutrition advice.
  6. Wellbeing calendar: For line managers and employees to explore and sign up to relevant webinars which may support them in their professional or personal life.

Download the App (via Apple Store or Google Play), enter your details and get started with a wealth of health and wellbeing support for you and your family. *Eligible family members include partner and children up to 18, or up to 24 if in full-time education.

Please note:
The help@hand platform is free of charge to access and make appointments, but there is a charge for things like referral notes (e.g. referral to a PMI provider and FIT notes) which as of 1st April 2024, will be £25.

*We therefore advise that use of the help@hand app should only be used by staff that aren’t yet members of AXA and are unable to make appointments within a reasonable time frame with their personal GPs.*

Other staff who are members of the AXA scheme should use the Doctor@Hand option through AXA to make appointments to see a doctor online.

If you do decide to use the help@hand service, there are two options which will be explained by the GP when issuing a prescription (which would incur a charge)

  • If you have opted to use the online pharmacy, you will receive an email with the Worldpay link to pay for the medication and delivery by email. The exact cost of the medication will be given at this point. The medication will be delivered the following day, and a signature will be required. The phone call is separate to the consultation as the payment call cannot be recorded for compliance reasons. Delivery charges will vary depending on the size and type of the medication and whether there are any special delivery requirements. All costs would be agreed with you.
  • If you choose the nominated pharmacy route, you will get an email or a text with a code. You would then go to your local pharmacy; present the code and they get the medication. You will be required to pay the counter price. There is also a system whereby the member going via nominated pharmacy option receives a code to their email post consultation. You would then relay this code to the pharmacy and they can dispense the relevant medication. If you live close to a pharmacy, you could receive the prescription within minutes.
