Wallasea Island to Burnham-on-Crouch

Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; "I am delighted that the Secretary of State has given his approval for the King Charles III England Coast Path Stretch in Essex, connecting Wallasea Island to Burnham-on-Crouch.

“This is an important part of linking up our communities, with all three sections of the Saltmarsh Coast (Wallasea Island to Burnham-on-Crouch, Burnham-on-Crouch to Maldon and Maldon to Salcott) now regarded as open.

“They form part of the longest managed coastal path in the world, King Charles III England Coastal Path will provide opportunities for visitors and residents to explore our beautiful coastline.

“This could not have been announced at a better time, as plans are taking shape for the second Saltmarsh Coast Walking Festival which will take place from 27 September to 6th October this year."

Next Steps...

Natural England will publish further details of the approved route in due course. Work is now underway to prepare the new stretch of coast path for public use. The first step is to contact owners and occupiers of the affected land to discuss the design and location of any new infrastructure which is needed, such as signs and gates. When preparations are complete, new access rights will come into force along the route and adjoining spreading room.
