Marine community unite for Nacra 15 World Championship 2026

The 2026 Nacra 15 World Championship brought over 60 crews from 12 countries to Plymouth for five days of racing, hosted jointly by Hooe Point Sailing Club and Plym Yacht Club. With boats launching from Mount Batten and the event village based at Plymouth Yacht Haven, competitors experienced a true showcase of world-class racing in one of the UK's premier sailing venues.

The week presented sailors, officials and volunteers with an ever-changing mix of conditions. From the near-calm opening day to shifty north-westerlies and classic Plymouth sea breezes, competitors were tested across the full range of skills required to succeed in the Nacra 15. Despite several weather challenges, Race Officer David Rollinson and his team successfully delivered the full schedule of 17 races.

Ashore, a huge team of volunteers, race officials, safety crews and technical staff worked tirelessly throughout the championship. Long days on the water were matched by evening debriefs, equipment repairs and protest hearings, ensuring the event continued to run smoothly from start to finish.

A fleet for all ages

The championship highlighted both the depth of international talent within the Nacra 15 class and the versatility of the boats themselves, with sailors of widely varying ages, sizes and experience levels competing at the highest standard.

The event concluded with a prize-giving celebration recognising a week of outstanding competition, sportsmanship and teamwork. The Organising Authority extends its thanks to all volunteers, officials, competitors, coaches, parents and sponsors whose support made the championship possible.

A fantastic week of racing

Thanks go to the Organising Authority of Hooe Point Sailing Club and Plym Yacht Club, as well as the numerous volunteers from across the City and the Country. Also to the sponsors, Plymouth Yacht Haven, Yacht Haven Quay, Shopfitting by SWS, Dart Sails and Covers, Yarde Farm ice cream, Gill, Kingfisher Ropes, South Coast Embroidery and Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, all of which without their support the event would not have been possible.

The 2026 Nacra 15 World Championship will be remembered as a fantastic week of racing and a fitting demonstration of Plymouth's reputation as a world-class sailing destination.
