TRANSAT north atlantic TRANSAT race start

02 May 2016

The historical TRANSAT race returns to Plymouth in 2016 as a group of sailors race single-handed across the North Atlantic finishing in Brooklyn, New York.

Race starts Monday 2nd May in Plymouth

The TRANSAT race is the oldest single-handed transatlantic race in history and the race returns to Plymouth once again in the spring of 2016. Forty boats are expected to take to the start line including monohulls and multihulls ranging from 40-60ft and a fleet of IMOCA 60s.

Paying homage to The Transat’s origins, the Transat will set sail from Plymouth – the first city to play host to the race. From Plymouth breakwater, the fleet will race 3,000 miles to Brooklyn in New York, where The Transat first finished 56 years ago. The race, which was last held in 2008, will push sailors to the limit with racing in solitude for nearly 2 weeks.

Vantage points for the start, details about how to see the boats and other shoreside entertainment will be released on the official TRANSAT website www.TheTRANSAT.com

Plymouth Yacht Haven will provide berthing to the largest and fastest multihulls with around 10 boats expected to be on the pontoons over the Bank Holiday weekend. The public will be allowed certain access to the pontoon to be able to see the boats up close. Just visit the Marina Office when you visit Plymouth Yacht Haven.
