Remains of WWII aircraft lifted ashore

Propeller 3 Propeller 2 Propeller 1

08 January 2019

The propeller of a World War II aircraft, believed to be a Lancaster Bomber, were lifted ashore earlier this week after a local fishing boat accidentally snagged it in their fishing lines.

The local fishermen snagged the propeller just off the Plymouth Breakwater. Originally thought to be a German Messerschmitt Bf 109 which was shot down over Plymouth in 1942, the wreckage has since shown to have a Rolls Royce plate suggesting the remains may belong to a Lancaster Bomber.

Needless to say, it was delicately lifted ashore before being taken away for further examination. As soon as we hear more about the history, we'll post it here!
