British kitesurfer Jake Scrace has set a new Guinness World Record by reaching 1,587 feet in a kitesurf tow-up above the Needles — with his record-breaking team based at Lymington Yacht Haven and celebrating afterwards at The Haven Bar.
Known for his daring stunts — including kite-surfing over Worthing Pier — Scrace was towed skyward by paramotor pilot Chey Anich before cutting loose at altitude and gliding back down to the sea. The flight almost doubled the previous world record of 908.7 feet.
“It was the biggest challenge I’ve ever taken on,” Scrace said. “Up there, it was about trusting the team, the conditions, and just going for it. The sense of freedom was incredible and I’m buzzing that we got the record on the first attempt.”

Meticulous Planning, Local Base
The record attempt was months in the making, involving a 30-strong crew including safety divers and film specialists. Lymington Yacht Haven provided shoreside support for the project team, who prepared their equipment and vessels from our marina before heading out to the Needles.
The feat was verified to Guinness World Records’ exacting standards using a combination of drones, altimeters, bodycams, GPS data and synchronised video from launch to water landing.
After the successful flight, the crew returned to Lymington to celebrate their achievement at The Haven Bar & Restaurant, overlooking the marina.

A Landmark Moment
The attempt was organised by global property and construction consultancy Gleeds to mark their 150th anniversary.
Pravin Patel, Guinness World Records’ official adjudicator, said:
“Gleeds’ record-breaking kitesurf tow-up is a stunning example of innovation, precision, and daring… We’re proud to officially recognise this milestone as part of our mission to showcase the most remarkable accomplishments from around the world.”
Richard Steer, Gleeds Global Chairman, added:
“For 150 years, Gleeds has believed in pushing boundaries and turning bold ideas into reality. This world record embodies that spirit perfectly… even the sky is no limit.”

Lymington Yacht Haven Proud to Support the Record-Breakers
We’re delighted to have provided the shoreside base for this extraordinary feat of human achievement. Seeing the whole crew return to the Haven Bar, buzzing from their success and sharing their story with fellow sailors, was a truly special moment for everyone here at Lymington Yacht Haven.
Congratulations to Jake and the entire team on an unforgettable world record!
