The Boat Club is a new, low commitment, hassle-free way to go boating, but we imagine you may have some questions about how the club works. So, here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions...
Who is the Club open to?
As long as you're over the age of 25 and have your RYA Level 2 Powerboat qualification, then you can join. If you don't have the RYA qualification, then we'll help you through your course and you can even do the course onboard one of the club boats.
Do you offer day charter?
Our membership package offers great value day trips on an annual basis. We therefore don't offer day charter to non-members.
Can I bring my friends, family and children on board?
Absolutely! Our boats can comfortably take up to 6 people, with Sirocco and Zonda coded for 8 persons. There are adult lifejackets onboard, but you’ll need to provide your own for children.
How much does it cost?
Our annual membership is £8,000 (inc VAT) for unlimited usage of our fleet. No maintenance, launching fees or mooring dues! You'll need to pay for the fuel you use at the end of your day out which is available 24/7 from Lymington Yacht Haven.
You can add a spouse or member of your family as an additional driver for £1,000 per year. They will need the same induction and qualifications as the main member. Only the main member and this one additional driver is permitted to helm the boat. Additional driver must be a member of family living at the same address as the primary member.
How do I book my days onboard?
Members will be given a username and login to our online booking platform, the ‘Boat Cloud’. The Boat Cloud App can be downloaded to your mobile or tablet from the App Store (for IoS or Android), or follow the Member Login button on www.lymingtonboatclub.com. From here, you can see the availability of the fleet and book your session.
Members can book a maximum of 2 sessions in advance. A 'session' is:
- 1 morning - 8.30am to 1pm
- 1 afternoon - 1.30pm to 6pm
- A full day booking = 2 sessions
As soon as you've used your session, you can book more dates.
Members are also entitled to one 'Golden Ticket' per year. A Golden Ticket is a full day booking which can be made as far in advance as you wish. This is perfect if you wish to block off your birthday, anniversary, Bank Holiday Monday or for a special event.
Earlier/later bookings are available by request. Boating before sunrise and after sunset is available but by prior arrangement only, subject to manager's discretion, the member's qualifications and weather forecast. Overnight bookings are also available on request providing the boat is not used at night and is berthed in a marina/harbour overnight.
How many people will I be sharing the boats with?
We will strictly limit the number of members per boat to ensure you get the maximum amount of use from your membership. We will manage this very closely throughout the year but you can rest easy in the knowledge that our primary aim is to ensure you enjoy a stress-free, comfortable and easy boating experience.
You will also be encouraged to know that as membership to the Lymington Boat Club expands, so will the fleet of boats. So more members will lead to a bigger and more diverse fleet available for use.
What if I breakdown?
At the end of each use, we'll check the boat over and get it ready for the next member. We also service and maintain the boats so we know every inch of their inner workings. Therefore, we hope it won't breakdown - but should it, then your membership includes the use of Sea Start, the on-water rescue service. As part of your induction, we'll give you instructions on how to use Sea Start in case of a breakdown.
What kit do I need?
A picnic, plenty of water, warm clothes, sunglasses and your snorkels! We'll provide all the safety equipment including adult lifejackets but you're welcome to use your own if you have them. You'll need to provide lifejackets for any children who get onboard.
Can I fish on board?
Absolutely. The MB Bora (Merry Fisher 695) is perfect for fishing with a full walkaround and spacious aft deck. Fishing is also permitted on the MB Zonda (one of the Axopar 28s), but not on the other boats in the fleet.
Where shall we go for our day out?
Cowes, the Needles, Alum Bay, Poole, Hamble, Beaulieu - the list is endless! Have a read of our cruising guide or just speak to our team to get some great tips and advice. Don't forget to check out the event calendar to get the best view of the Solent's events!
We also run regular guided tours throughout the year showing you some of the best harbours, bays and beaches to visit. These trips include navigational advice when visiting these areas, as well as tips on boat handling and berthing.
What about insurance?
As part of your membership, you'll need to supply a £500 insurance damage deposit. A full copy of our Terms & Conditions Of Use are available on request.
Is there anything else?
If you've read our FAQs this far, then perhaps it's time you gave us a call? You can come down to see the boat, understand how it works, meet our team who are here to help you get aboard, and perhaps even go for a quick spin to see how the boat handles.
