For one day only, the Essex-based marina turned pink in aid of Breast Cancer Now, raising £2,185 for the charity.
The Haven Team at Fambridge undertook their daily marina duties in a variety of pink outfits and headdress for the popular ‘Wear It Pink’ day in October. Pink cakes were sold in the Marina Office, while a raffle, bingo and evening BBQ all took place at West Wick Yacht Club’s clubhouse with berth holders and a variety of marine businesses at Fambridge all taken part.
But, undoubtedly, the most popular fundraising activity was the 9 hours of sponsored silence by Yard Manager Paul Wiggins. Paul undertook his entire duties for the day, including the lay-up of many winter boats, in complete silence – much to the pleasure of his colleagues!
Marina Manager Danyal Adams commented on the day saying, “It was such fun and the response from our customers was overwhelming. Everyone in our staff knows someone who has been affected by Breast Cancer so we were very keen to take part in the Wear It Pink day to raise funds for the charity. On behalf of the whole team, we extend a big “thank you” to all our berth holders and the other businesses on-site who got involved in the day.”
The national ‘Wear It Pink’ day takes place every October raising money for life-saving research into breast cancer. Since 2002, the day has raised over £30million making it one of the largest fundraising events in the UK.
