For the second year running, our annual River Run was blessed with warm sunshine and a steady breeze for the popular event. This year Dale was chosen as the destination to enable bertholders with yachts to join in on the action.
After a morning briefing at Neyland Yacht Haven, the flotilla left the marina and headed west towards the entrance of Milford Haven. Sailing yachts took advantage of the favourable south-westerly winds by sailing along Milford Haven. Tucked away inside the estuary, to the north of St Anne's Head, lies the village of Dale where the flotilla joined a number of other boats. Marina workboat Rambo provided a ferry service from boats at anchor or on moorings to Dale pontoon.
Once ashore, participants joined in with the Pirate Day event which included a BBQ, live music, pirate-themed games and fancy dress to entertain parents and children. James Cotton, Neyland Yacht Haven Marina Director, presented the prize for Best Dressed Boat to Berthholder Glen and his boat SY Suntan Lady. His huge efforts to dress his boat in pirate-theme did not go unnoticed with fellow River Runners commenting on his outstanding livery!
Many thanks to everyone who attended, with special thanks to Dale Yacht Club and Pembrokeshire Cruising for their planning and coordination.
