Boating on the West Coast of Scotland

03 January 2014

Boating on the west coast of Scotland has grown in popularity in recent years. The Firth of Clyde, one of the largest areas of sheltered deep water in the British Isles is coming to life; sailors are recognising the beauty of these waters and the endless sailing possibilities they open up.

This majestic body of water is surrounded by dramatic hills and filled with lush islands, providing sailing for all abilities, complimented by lively marinas and towns for days and nights spent on land.

Troon is in the heart of this area and one of the most accessible bases for cruising Scotland’s waters. From Troon you can sail amidst the spectacular scenery of the west coast and islands or take a longer trip to St. Kilda, Orkney or Shetland, and even further afield to the Faroe Islands or Norway.

Troon Yacht Haven is the most accessible marina in Scotland. Easily accessed by water it’s just 10 minutes from Glasgow Prestwick Airport and 35 minutes from Glasgow city centre.

With 400 berths, all fully serviced with water, electricity, free Wi-Fi and 24 hour security, Troon Yacht Haven has been awarded Four Gold Anchors from the Yacht Association.

You’ll find everything you need at Troon Yacht Haven, with a good technical chandlery, boatyard services and easy provisioning all on the doorstep. There is also a stunning bar and restaurant, Scott’s, which looks out onto picturesque waters, with the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig in the distance.

The active Clyde Cruising Club, established in 1909, is the largest sailing club in Scotland with over 2000 members and a full diary of cruising and racing events held around the Clyde and west coast of Scotland; Troon Cruising Club is based within Troon Yacht Haven and organises racing and cruising throughout the season. And numerous special events and annual fixtures can be enjoyed on the doorstep including in 2014 the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

From Troon Yacht Haven the main town is just 10 minutes away, and there you’ll find bars, restaurants, shopping, coastal walks and historic sites to keep you occupied on days away from the marina.

Scotland’s West Coast is a playground for sailors both on and off the water and Troon Yacht Haven is in the centre of the action; it’s the ideal place for you to enjoy everything this area has to offer.
