The Sail For Macmillan charity boats have arrived in Troon as part of their epic, 7-week Round Britain voyage raising money for Macmillan Cancer Research.
The fundraiser, sponsored by Yacht Havens, departed Fambridge in Essex in early May, arriving in Largs on May Bank Holiday before reaching Troon the following day. Welcomed by Greeted by Marina Directory Stephen Bennie, the charity team were presented with a further donation from the marina.
The two 35' sailing yachts will be visiting each of Yacht Havens' six main marinas around the UK including Largs, Troon, Neyland, Plymouth and Lymington, in addition to starting and finishing at Fambridge Yacht Haven. In the first month of the trip, the two boats have sailed north along the east coast of the UK before sailing through the stunning Caledonian Canal. From Largs, the boats head south to Troon, Wales and Cornwall.
Colin Stracey, Chief Instructor at First Class Sailing East Coast, explained that this fundraiser was to thank Macmillan nurses who had offered support when his adult son James was rushed into hospital with stomach pains only to discover that it was bowel cancer. James had surgery and chemotherapy and thanks to the wonderful medical staff and superb care and support provided by Macmillan has made a full recovery.
