We were delighted to welcome over 30 Cornish Shrimpers to Neyland Yacht Haven as part of the International Shrimper Week 2017 organised by the Shrimper Owners Association (SOA).
The fleet were welcomed to Pembrokeshire with a brief windy front which quickly passed allowing them to enjoy 5 days a stunning warm weather to cruise to Milford Sound.
Their busy week included a visit to Hazelbeach, dinners at the Bar Restaurant & Brunel Cafe at Neyland Yacht Haven, racing organised by Neyland Yacht Club, a sail Lawrenny and Cresswell Quay, a sail on the ebb to Gelliswick Bay and a stopover at Castle Pool, and several BBQs!
The beautiful 22ft Shrimpers originate from North Cornwall with much of the fleet still based near Padstow. However, their studiness in all weathers, overnight cabin for 2-4 people and easy ability to be trailered makes the Shrimper an extremely popular boat all-round the UK, including the Milford Sound! Plus, their traditional gaff rig sails and wooden features make the fleet one of the prettiest!
We wish the SOA all the best for the future and hope to see them back in Pembrokeshire one day!
