The Land Rover BAR Road Show has visited Ayrshire with an estimated 600 people visiting the two-day event at Largs Yacht Haven, UK Coastal Marina Of The Year 2017.
The Friday saw 130 children from local schools around Largs and Ayrshire take part in a multi-sport, action-packed day on and off the water. On the water, pupils were given the opportunity to try sailing on a mini-America's Cup catamaran with expert tuition and advice from two-time Olympic gold medallist Sarah Ayton. Furthermore, children could try kayaking, windsurfing and coastal rowing from the Largs Sailing Club slipway. Away from the water, the America's Cup theme continued with Virtual Reality headsets to give a unique, onboard experience as well as winch grinding demonstrations.
On Saturday, these events were extended to members of the public with brand new Land Rover cars being demonstrated as well as remote-controlled Land Rover cars. As the sunset, the big screen was turned on showing live action from Bermuda as Land Rover BAR clinched a place in the next round of the America's Cup.
Commenting on the event, Largs Yacht Haven Marina Director Carolyn Elder stated it was "one of the most engaging, all-round family events we've ever hosted!". Carolyn continued, "This event truly had something for everyone. It was one of the most well-attended events we've hosted and it has been a fantastic advert for both sailing and the America's Cup".
The Road Show was organised by the British contender to the America's Cup, Land Rover BAR, as well as the 1851 Trust, the team's official charity, and Bermuda tourist board.
