Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visits Largs Yacht Haven to watch the UK's premier youth sailing event, the RYA Youth National Championships

The 2018 RYA Youth National Championships was graced by the presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal on day four in Largs, Scotland. As President of the Royal Yachting Association, the Princess Royal regularly attends the RYA events including previous visits when the Youth Championships have been held in Largs.

On this occasion, the Princess Royal's visit proved a good omen with a full day on the day of her visit with glorious sunny conditions over the Firth Of Clyde. After watching racing afloat, HRH met some of the 220 young competitors who competed in the biggest event in British Youth Sailing.

Racing

Volunteers were tasked with regular changes to the racing schedule due to the unpredictability of Scottish weather forecasts. But the race management from the RYA, Largs Sailing Club and British Youth Sailing ensured almost a full racing schedule was completed with over 200 dinghies, 50 support RIBs and various race management boats creating a stunning spectacle on the Firth of Clyde.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible including those from Largs Sailing Club, the RYA, and all the friends, family and supporters of the competitors. More details on the event can be found on the RYA website.
