Organisers confirm dates for inaugural Lymington Classic Regatta

16 April 2014

Lymington Classic Yacht Regatta - Sponsored by Lymington Yacht Haven

Lymington Yacht Haven is delighted to share dates for the inaugural Lymington Classic Regatta that will take place on 13 and 14 September 2014 with entries now being invited from interested parties.

As a jointly organised venture, Lymington Yacht Haven, the British Classic Yacht Club, the Royal Lymington Yacht Club and Lymington Harbour Commissioners, have announced plans for a new Classic Yacht Regatta.

The event will take place over a weekend and host starts for Classics, Spirits of Tradition, Metre and Gaffers.

The provisional schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Friday 12th September – moor on Dan Bran and enjoy a welcome reception at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club.

Saturday 13th September – 2 races in the Western Solent followed by a regatta supper.

Sunday 14th September – 1 coastal race followed by a prize giving ceremony. Evening depart.

Regatta entrants will have access to the Yacht Haven’s extensive new facilities both on and off the water to include:

  - Professional race officers in fully-equipped Committee boats

  - Race management teams supported by trained volunteer teams

  - Individual opportunities for RIB charter and marine photography

  - Hull scrubs by lift or diver

  - Pontoon parties provided by local sponsors

  - A full schedule of social events throughout the weekend

  - Use of free parking for crew and guests at Lymington Yacht Haven

  - Bar, restaurant and casual dining areas all with stunning views of the Western Solent

Director Rupert Wagstaff explains why he was keen to be involved in creating a new regatta for Lymington:

“Lymington has long been associated with yachting having built three of the original fifteen yachts that raced against the schooner America around the Isle of Wight in 1851, a race that was the forerunner to the Americas Cup.

With the stunning new facilities we have to offer at Lymington Yacht Haven, together with The Royal Lymington Yacht Club’s past experience in hosting word class yachting events, we feel this regatta will be a fabulous weekend and one we hope to turn into an annual fixture.”
