Largs Regatta Week 2016 - Sponsored by CalMac Ferries Ltd

Largs Regatta Week 2016 Concludes In Style

05 September 2016

The 2016 Largs Regatta Week drew to a close with conditions allowing the full set of races including the Scottish Two Handed Race, the Hems Kalis Dinghy Series and the Coastal Rowing Regatta.

Scotland's only Two Handed Race saw boats sail round Arran with the race starting in a lively southerly breeze. However, at the midpoint of the race, the breeze died off leaving competitors a long sail in light wind back to the finish. Yacht Warrior took line honours in Class 1 (Long Race) Division crossing the line around midnight!

Full results from the Two Handed Race:

The 2016 Hems Kalis Dinghy Series started off windy and then the breeze eased off to provide a test in all conditions. Congratulations to Robbie Burns and Vicki Simpson who took the Fast Handicap Class win and Innes Stewart who won the Slow Handicap Class in what was a tightly fought series in both classes.

We are delighted that the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Regatta went ahead successfully with teams entering the waters from the Championship Slipway. The popular Rowing Regatta is a great inclusion within the Regatta Week with this year's light winds and changing swell providing great racing conditions. (Check out the video below!)

With Largs Viking Festival running alongside the Regatta, competitors were treated to a spectacular torch-lit procession and fireworks on the final night bringing a close to another fantastic week of sailing.

Thank You

A big thank you to all competitors, volunteers, race officers and spectators for making the week so spectacular. Further thank you to Largs Sailing Club, Fairlie Yacht Club and our title sponsors, CalMac Ferries Ltd. Over £1,200 was raised for the RNLI from the Ceilidh party plus £500 was raised from late entries and the Regatta Raffle which has been donated to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

See you all in 2017!
