Largs Regatta Week Welcomes New Sponsor For 2016

Cal Mac Sponsor LRW

02 June 2016

The organising committee of Largs Regatta Week are delighted to announce new title sponsorship from Caledonian MacBrayne.

Largs Regatta Week sponsored by CalMac Ferries Ltd, 27th August to 3rd September

Largs Regatta Week has been running successfully for over 25 years at the end of August, and is unique in that it is the only event in Scotland where both keelboats and dinghies race on the same race course – around the buoys and also around the islands. It also incorporates the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club annual regatta, and a new event for 2016, the RNLI fundraising ceilidh on Friday 26 August.

Alasdair Henderson, Head of Harbours for CalMac, said: "As the Operators of Largs Harbour we are delighted to have been able to step in and provide short term support to this prestigious event, especially since much of the activity will take place close to or in our harbour areas and approaches. We are keen to promote leisure use of our harbours and this is an ideal event to do just that."

In addition to the Clyde and Hebrides ferries, CalMac is also the operator of 24 Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (better known as CMAL) owned piers, harbours and slipways across its network. These locations include both Largs and Cumbrae. With 165 years of harbour operations pedigree, it is a major management and logistics role, ensuring infrastructure and port facilities are available for all marine users across a range of harbours and slipways of varying sizes, navigational complexity and geographical distance. Locations range from unmanned slipways in remote locations like Claonaig on Kintyre or Kilchoan on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, through to major hub ports like Oban with complex user needs.

Carolyn Elder, Director of Largs Yacht Haven and Largs Regatta Week committee enthused “The financial support from CalMac comes at a perfect time as we are planning the detail of the 2016 Week.  We are proud to be part of the Regatta and welcome sailors old and new to the marina. And of course raising money for the RNLI as part of the competition is an added bonus.  We look forward to working with our new partners, CalMac, and delivering an action filled week to our competitors in August.”

Largs Regatta Week is run jointly by Largs Sailing Club, Fairlie Yacht Club, Largs Yacht Haven and Scottish Sailing Institute.  This year’s event runs from Friday 26 August to Sunday 4 September.
