Dear All,

The boating season is now in full swing; you’re all polished, fuelled up, and raring to get out there on your next adventure! A few more degrees centigrade might be nice but this is Devon and it wouldn’t be the beautiful green county that we know and love if it was warm. And we’d all get soft.

Fishing Competition, Monday 25th May
Plymouth Breakwater

To kick-start a summer of fun, Lee’s arranged the first Yacht Haven Quay Fishing Competition for Monday 25th May (don’t panic, it’s not just because it’s his day off – it’s a bank holiday!).

Why not get a team together and prove what accomplished trawlermen you could have been? Rules are pretty straightforward; depart YHQ at 0900 ish and return at 1600 ish for a prizegiving, buffet and a beer in The Mess Room. Up for grabs is that coveted “Biggest Fish at Yacht Haven Quay” trophy – please don’t let it go to John on “Just Joy” (again). Anyway, more details from the office are on Facebook. We hope to see lots of you there.

More Boaty Trips...
Keep an eye on Facebook for news of our next boat trips

...are in the pipeline. We had to postpone the visit to Plymouth Breakwater because of last winter’s storm damage to the landing, but we’re told that it’s now ok. So we’ll find a sunny day in June to venture out – it has to be a week day as we’ll need to be escorted by the MoD, and unlike us, they don’t seem to work at weekends. Please register your interest beforehand as numbers have to be limited on this one.

Later in the summer we thought we might venture to Fowey and then Bantham; more details to follow but, as ever, keep an eye on Facebook and twitter for last-minute updates.

RYA Active Marina Programme
The RYA are encouraging marina berth holders to get together, socialise and train on the water, and we at Yacht Haven Quay are firm believers in this. So as well as our mini-adventures along the coast, we offer a free half-day’s tuition to all of our customers with a qualified RYA instructor. It may be that you have a new boat, or are new to the area and would like some tips on where to go, but whatever your query is, we’re here to help.

News from our tenant businesses
The Mess Room

South West Yacht Brokers have been appointed an official Tohatsu Outboard Dealer to compliment their Smartliner range of fishing and leisure craft. SWYB are the UK distributor of Smartliner and they will be pleased to show you the whole range in their showroom and commissioning facility at Yacht Haven Quay.

We hope you’re all enjoying the new Mess Room Café, which is open 7 days a week from 0830 – 1700. It’s also available for private functions and parties. Still to come is the addition of a roof terrace which will have fantastic views downriver towards Mountbatten and The Sound.

Weather Forecasting
There’s a brand new, continuously updated weather screen in the Marina Reception so you can check that last minute heatwave really is on the way, and fill your fridges with ice cream. (It seems to have had lots of those unpleasant rain icons on it recently, so we’ve turned it off).

Car Parking
Work is almost complete on a new tarmac car park just inside the main gates. Please leave your car in an allocated space if you’re going out on the water as we may need access to other parts of the boatyard with heavy machinery. If in doubt, please drop your car keys off in the marina office prior to leaving.

A new face
We welcome Steve Bradburn to the Yacht Haven Quay Team. Stolen from his last role at our Turnchapel Wharf site, he thought he was just visiting us for an afternoon, but we’re keeping him as not only is he well qualified in handling all sorts of boats, including being a time-served lifeboatman, he makes a cracking cup of tea. Meet the team.

And finally
Yacht Haven Quay

A reminder to newer berth holders about trim tabs and aerials – tabs up, aerials down please, otherwise we can’t lift you!

If you can’t make it for next week’s fishing competition don’t worry, there will be others during the season. Whatever your particular boating interest though, we wish you a fabulous summer and look forward to seeing you here soon.

Best wishes from all the team at YHQ
